Before cobwebs and pumpkins take over your sewing table, meet your newest spooky-cute project—the Halloween Gnomes! This easy, beginner-friendly sewing pattern is perfect for using up fabric scraps, trying new stitching techniques, and adding handmade charm to your Halloween décor. They’re plush and use weighted beads to help keep them standing tall. Mix and match fabrics for added texture and character.

What’s Included in the Halloween Gnomes Sewing Pattern:
This pattern includes everything you need to sew your own set of five Halloween gnome plushies:
- Five characters: Pumpkin, Ghost, Candy Corn, Witch, and Monster.
- Full-length video tutorials: Each gnome has it’s own how-to video tutorial plus additional videos for assembling pattern pieces and making the weighted base needed for each Halloween Gnome character.
- Printable PDF pattern instructions: Each Halloween gnome has it’s own set of instructions with full-color photos.
- Printable pattern pieces: All five gnome sewing patterns share some pattern pieces! That’s less pattern pieces than you think.
Each gnome stands about 16 inches tall and measures 8 inches wide. The pattern can be sewn entirely by hand or with a sewing machine (with some steps requiring hand stitching).

Skill Level and Techniques
The Halloween Gnomes pattern is beginner-friendly and designed to teach or reinforce basic sewing techniques including:
- Straight-line stitching
- Ladder stitch for closing openings
- Basic embroidery and optional free-motion stitching
- Layering fabric and adding texture
- Creating frayed fabric edges for a handmade, spooky look
If you’ve ever wanted to try plush sewing and using weighted beads, this is a great place to start!

Materials & Tools
You can make these gnomes in a variety of fabrics—cotton, felt, fleece, or linen all work great. Non-stretch fabrics keep the cone shape best, yet fleece is also a good choice and adds a cozy feel.
You’ll also need:
- Embroidery thread for faces and details.
- Fiber filling (Poly-Fil or small cut fabric scraps).
- Weighted beads (Poly-Pellets) to help your gnomes stand tall.
- Paper for making a funnel for easy filling with weighted beads.
- Basic sewing tools: sewing machine, scissors, clips or pins, marking pen, funnel, ruler, and needle.

Fabric Tips
- For a frayed edge (like the Halloween Ghost Gnome), use woven cotton or linen.
- Add felt backing when stitching faces to prevent puckering.
- Use fleece for a soft, cuddly look or cotton for crisp details.
- Each gnome uses a weighted base to help it stand up. I recommend using cotton for this, but it doesn’t need to coordinate as it will not be visible from the outside.

Meet the Halloween Gnomes Sewing Pattern
Ghost – Two cone layers create a structured base and a floating costume with frayed edges. The long facial features are a classic ghost-like face.
Candy Corn – Features the classic three-color layers and a friendly stitched smile.
Pumpkin – A jack-o’-lantern face, topstitched vertical “ribs,” and a leafy vine for texture.
Monster – Complete with bolts, frown, and wild hair—he’s the cutest kind of cranky.
Witch – A quirky hat, hooked nose, and gathered hair give her plenty of personality.
