What you’ll need for this studded purse upcycle project
Wallet, Clutch, or Purse
Find a plain thirft store wallet to upcycle or maybe you have a purse or wallet in your closet that needs a makeover. Jazz it up with studs! This pink metallic clutch was a free gift from Victoria’s Secret. While I liked the form and function, it needed a bit of a makeover.
Studs
You can purchase brand new Studs
for this DIY studded purse or upcycle some studs. I chose to upcycle some studs from a couple of my husband’s old studded belts. I was able to find plain silver studs and some larger black studs that were nicely worn in. Using a small flathead screwdriver I removed the studs from the belt and then straightened the prongs with a needle-nose pliers.
How to Upcycle a Purse with Studs
Decide where on the upcycled clutch, wallet, or purse that you’d like to add studs. This could be on a handle, pocket flap, or sides.
Ideally you’ll want the prongs on the backside of the studs to be hidden in between layers. Evaluate how to separate the two layers so you’ll easily be able to reassemble once the studs are applied.
Decide on a pattern for the studs. Make them lay straight or diagonal, mix colors and sizes, or create a shape with studs
Separate the outer and inner layers where the studs will be added.
Push the prongs of the studs fully through the outer layer. With a flat head screwdriver push the prongs flat.
When all the studs have been added reassemble the layers to the original placement.
I love the way my upcycled clutch turned out. I now have a DIY studded purse perfect for nights out on the town or quick run to the store.
