There was a period of time when our son wanted everything he saw turned into a cuddle buddy. I guess when your mom designs and sews plush toys, and you’re a four-year-old who loves stuffed animals, that’s how you see the world. It makes sense, and that’s how many of my beginner-friendly plush toy sewing patterns, including the Moon Alien Plush Sewing Pattern, have come from.
One day, we sat down with a large sheet of paper and some crayons to brainstorm a new cuddle buddy idea. He had an entire plan with a backstory and everything. He drew out the basic sketch, and I altered it to ensure it would be a sewable design. He knew exactly how many legs and arms it would have; it needed antennae and hair and had to have a pocket on its back to carry its favorite snack. Before we were even done with this one, he was on to the next design with another intricate personality and backstory.
The plush alien includes four legs with feet, four arms with hands, two antennae with a “bulb” on top, hair, five eyes, six freckles, and a friendly smile. Plus, there’s a pocket on the back so your Moon Alien can carry their favorite goodies. The easy plush sewing pattern came from a child’s mind and is ready for you to make your own Moon Alien.

How to Sew the Moon Alien Plush Toy
The sewing pattern has easy steps to create a stuffed alien plush. In the pattern, you will learn how to construct each part of the plush alien, including four legs, four arms, and two antennas.
The pattern pieces included in the PDF sewing pattern will be used as a guide for placing the facial features. In addition to sewing this very easy plush toy sewing pattern, you can add a friendly smile with a basic embroidery stitch. I recommend using a Stem Stitch, Split Stitch, or even a Couch Stitch to create the alien smile.
You will sew a simple rectangle pocket for the backside of the alien so your alien (or its keeper) can carry their favorite goodies.
Once all the pieces are ready, you will put them together and stuff your alien before closing it up with a basic ladder stitch.

Tips for Customizing Your Moon Alien Plush
While I recommend making the Moon Alien in its original design first, you can customize your plush toy to your liking. The ideas are endless.
Here are some customization ideas based on things I’ve seen others do with my simple plush toy sewing patterns:
- choose fleece fabric with a fun design
- add an embroidered name or word to the back pocket
- add more (or less) limbs
- use large googly eyes
- make the limbs bigger
- skip the pocket
- enlarge (or decrease the pattern size)
- stuff the alien with something other than stuffing
