A few days ago my best friend had her first baby girl and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her. It’s amazing to see how much love can pour out of two people when they look at the new addition to their family. It makes me feel all soft and fuzzy inside. :)
A few months prior, I was assigned the task of creating the invitations for my BFF’s baby shower. Well…actually I volunteered and I’m glad I did because I created some super cute, baby shower invites with my Silhouette Cameo.
I’m still green to the Silhouette Cameo so I didn’t create my own shapes for this task but used a couple files from the Silhouette Store (this one and this one). I was inspired by this idea and customized it to make it just right.
First I sized the dress and onesie shapes to fit together and to fit the envelope. I customized the neck ruffles and placement of the holes for the ribbon.
Michael’s had the perfect scrapbook paper-pad for baby girls that provided some fun patterns for the little dresses. I also added a plain pink dress to the inside so the color would be seen when the invite is open.
Thick, white, card-stock was used for the inner onesie to make it really stiff.
This was my first time using the Silhouette Sketch Pens (which are awesome and have great potential for some amazing things!). Next time I will definitely print the text portion and then cut on the Silhouette. I completely used up the purple pen!
All the pieces came together with some gold, wired-edge ribbon. I hadn’t intended on the wired-edge ribbon but it turned out to work really well to get those tiny bows to sit flat.
I also used the Silhouette Sketch Pens to make out the envelopes.
They turned out super cute and got some great feedback from the gals.

These baby shower invitations were somewhat complex but totally worth it for my BFF and her brand new baby girl. :)

Can you tell me if you cut a front and back of the dress and just one of the onsie?
Hi Annette – I cut 2 pieces for the dress and glued then together only because the patterned paper was very thin and white on the back. I wanted to thicken it up and make sure pink showed on the inside. You could get away with just 1 piece for the dress.
Just 1 piece was used for the onsie.

I love this! I am trying to recreate it for my BFF!!! She is having her first baby. This is my first time using pens with my Cameo. How did you get the letters in the baby’s name to be filled? I can only get the outline of the letters.
Hi Kristen – The font I used was very thin so the outlines came pretty close together. I then went back with the marker and filled in the gaps. Send me pics of how yours turned out, I’d love to see them :)
I am going to try this over the weekend for my baby shower! What size envelopes did you use? Do you have the size of the design that you used or was it standard?

Hi Mitali – The envelopes used are a standard announcement size. I believe that’s an A-2 (4.375″ x 5.75″).

What did you use to make the holes for ribbon?
The holes are part of the cut file and are cut on the Silhouette. If you’re making these without a cutter you could use a hole punch.
