Today a friend of mine introduced me to the art of royal icing cookies. Hello new holiday tradition!
Before today I had no idea what this was or the endless possibilities of creativity.
First we started by making the cookie dough and icing using Layer’s of Happiness‘ recipe.
We stuck to just a few colors: red, green, white, peach, and silver. My friend had a large selection of sprinkles in a ton of shapes, colors, and sizes.
We had already decided on shapes: snowflakes, poinsettias, Santa Claus, Christmas Trees, and stamps.
We searched Pinterest for inspiration and references then went crazy with ideas. Here are some of the royal icing Christmas cookies we made.
We were up to our elbows in icing and loving it! :)
I have a new respect for these cookies and what goes into them. Looking forward to another session of royal icing cookies.
What are your Christmas cookie traditions?
