This year the team of therapists my mom works with decided to go as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Of course, the one male in their group was voted to be Snow White. My mom got the role of Grumpy Dwarf. Yesterday she sent me a pic of her DIY Grumpy Costume and it’s awesome.
I get my Halloween spirit from my mom. As kids, we dressed up every year and I don’t recall ever having a store-bought costume. Every year there was was a DIY costume. She always put up excellent DIY Halloween decorations around the house too. At our front door stood a mannequin dressed as Frankenstein, in our yard we had a papier-mâché skeleton wearing a 3-piece suit climbing out of a coffin surrounded by headstones (with clever names and causes of death), ghosts and bats hung in the trees, and inside classic cotton cobwebs were strewn about.
How to make a DIY Grumpy Costume
You can easily make your own Grumpy Costume with things you may already have in your closet.
Try a combination of the materials below or make up your own.
- brown stocking cap
- quilt batting for beard and hair
- red sweater or shirt
- brown elbow patches
- wide black belt
- gold belt buckle
- baggy brown pants
- brown slippers, shoes, or boots
- grumpy face and crossed arms
SHE NAILED IT!
My mom has been named the “Queen of Halloween” (watch-out Martha) and I’m happy to follow in her rein.
