Try this easy thrift store upcycle and bring a hoodie new life.
Consignment shops are a great place to find new and gently worn clothing. I found this Old Navy hoodie for just $5.
At thrift stores you can often find inexpensive lace curtains. I found a set of four diner curtains at a local thrift shop for $3 and they’ve come in handy for several projects.
Materials
- hoodie
- lace
- painters tape
- fabric paint (I used Simply Spray Deep Purple and Stencil Spray Gold Glimmer)
Directions
Start by cutting off the sleeves to your desired length. I chose to bring in the sides to create a better fit.
Place the hoodie onto a dressmaker form or stuff with a pillow and paper to create a full shape. Cut pieces of lace and tape onto the hoodie, masking out areas you do not want to paint.
Spray on your fabric paint. Allow paint to dry before removing tape and lace. Repeat with different colors.
Let the fabric paint dry for at least 24 hours before washing.

Did the paint stay after washing it? My experiences are not always perfect, but I learned that ironing the whole thing before washing it helps in fixating the paint.

Hi Marije – You’re right. I have had some bad experiences with the paint sticking. In some areas it stuck better than other. Good tip on ironing, I’ll try that.
